Dear prospective students,
The Hydroclimate Laboratory <https://pages.charlotte.edu/hcl/> in the
Department
of Geography & Earth Sciences <http://geoearth.charlotte.edu> at the
University of North Carolina in Charlotte has openings for up to two new
students at the MS
<https://geoearth.charlotte.edu/graduate-programs/masters-earth-sciences>
and/or PhD <https://ines.charlotte.edu/> level in Fall 2022. Graduate
assistantships are available for both programs, and the priority
application deadline for assistantship consideration is *February 15, 2022.*
For the MS level in particular, students with North Carolina residency are
preferred.
Potential thesis options include 1) a global comparison of long-term
observed trends in drought and aridity indicators across multiple datasets,
2) the production of new fine-scale Mediterranean paleoclimate
reconstructions over the Holocene, and/or 3) the use of new theories to
understand diverging simulated responses of the pole-equator temperature
gradient to greenhouse warming. However, original climatic research ideas
are also welcome.
Experience *analyzing gridded atmospheric or environmental datasets* using
Matlab, Python, R, or a similar tool is strongly preferred, though not
required.
Please contact me (jscheff at uncc.edu) if you are interested or if you have
any questions!
Best,
Jacob (Jack) Scheff
Assistant Professor
