The Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a post-doctoral scientist. The incumbent will work with Drs. David Nolan and Sharanya Majumdar in support of the CGWaves field program to observe and understand gravity waves produced by thunderstorms that propagate into the stratosphere. The primary task will be using the WRF model to produce idealized, real-case, and data-assimilated simulations of thunderstorms and squall lines over the central U.S. The post-doc will also participate in the CGWaves program for 3-4 weeks in Lincoln, Nebraska, that is currently scheduled for June 2023. They will perform simulations, analyze observations, give presentations, and write and contribute to scientific articles.

The candidate should have recently earned a PhD in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, or a closely related field, a strong background in dynamic meteorology, and experience with atmospheric modeling. Knowledge and experience with data assimilation is also desirable. The position is for 1 year with expected renewal for a second year.
