UCSB is hiring a Research Computing Consultant. The Research Computing
Consultant is a critical component of the campus IT Strategy to support use
of IT resources and infrastructure available to the UCSB campus research
community. The position supports enhancement and use of the use of
supercomputing in courses and research at UCSB. This position is UCSB's
primary interface with regional (e.g., SDSC) and national (e.g., XSEDE)
supercomputing centers (the centers) and is responsible for the allocation
and monitoring of UCSB use of supercomputing time and resources. The
position engages with faculty, researchers and scientific staff across all
applicable disciplines to promote and facilitate the effective use of HPC
(High Performance Computing) both on campus and at the centers through
expert knowledge of variable HPC hardware and scientific HPC software.

The position conducts outreach with faculty, researchers, the Office of
Research, and scientific staff to ensure the community is aware of and
understands the resources available at UCSB to support their research
efforts. The position will be a key component of the campus Software
Carpentry concept. The campus will provide support for the position to
obtain and maintain Software Carpentry instructor certification.  As part
of the campus Software Carpentry team, the position will help plan,
develop, support and delivery Software Carpentry curriculum. This position
will also develop and maintain metrics such as classes taught, proposals
supported, and outreach activities conducted that will help the campus
understand how well support of research progresses.

*Requirements*

   - Familiarity/Experience with High Performance Computing environments
   - Familiarity/Experience with the research computing environment, tools,
   and processes
   - Experience working, teaching or training in an academic research
   environment, or working closely with faculty staff and students
   - Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written
   communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness,
   advising and counseling skills
   - Ability, desire, and willingness to learn any of the above is
   acceptable.

Work Location: UCSB Campus, Hybrid

Pay Rate/Range: $90,000 to $104,600/yr. Depending on Experience

Days/Hours: M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
