Hello, I am looking for a PhD student to join a research project on Asian
dust. The student will work with a wide range of data sets and Earth system
model experiments to study the variability of Asian dust and the governing
roles of climate and land use changes (e.g., deforestation, afforestation,
land fragmentation), as well as the climate and air quality implications of
dust aerosol emission in the context of agricultural expansion and rapid
industrialization. The student will have the opportunity to develop novel
statistical and machine learning approaches to work with a complex set of
data variables and sources. Such skills are also highly sought after in the
private industry. The applicant is expected to have a BS or MS in
Atmospheric Sciences, Remote Sensing, Physics, or related disciplines.
Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Xin Xi (xinxi at mtu.edu)
for questions about the project and/or applications. Applicants should
apply through the Atmospheric Science PhD program (
https://www.mtu.edu/atmospheric/) at Michigan Tech. There is no application
fee.
