The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the
University of Miami in Miami, FL, invites applicants for a full time Senior
Research Associate I position. We seek an individual to join our Ecosystem
Assessment lab group to support coastal fieldwork, by deploying,
programming, and maintaining oceanographic instruments within the NOAA
Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory's Ocean Chemistry and
Ecosystem Division in Miami, FL.


The candidate will build and maintain instruments, integrate and develop
equipment, instrumentation, and methodologies to improve our observations
of ocean and coastal stressors and their impacts, including the measurement
of temperature, salinity, turbidity, chlorophyll a, Dissolved Inorganic
Carbon, plankton, etc.


This position will utilize a solid foundation in oceanographic data
collection, deployment and retrieval of oceanographic instrumentation, and
instrument repair and trouble-shooting.  Beneficial experience will include
boating skills, basic seamanship, and an understanding of electronics.


Responsibilities include:

   - Maintaining oceanographic instrumentation for data collection.
   - Managing the electronic and fabrication shops.
   - Evaluating observational systems for use in successfully collecting
   data that is requested.
   - Plan, participate and provide logistical support for the deployment
   and retrieval of oceanographic observing systems and moorings utilizing
   small and large research vessels.
   - This work will be done in hot temperatures, sometimes adverse weather
   conditions and at sea on boats, and the ability to climb on uneven terrain
   and lift up to 50 pounds is necessary.


Requirements:

Candidates for this position should possess a Master’s of Science degree in
Marine Science, Oceanography, Environmental Engineering, Ocean Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, or a related field experience, and preferred
demonstrated experience in (1) Oceanographic Observing system  design  (2)
Planning and participating in deployment and retrieval of oceanographic
equipment, and moorings, (3) Participation in field surveys in South
Florida including small boat driving experience (4) The ability and desire
to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, (5)
Knowledge and experience in shipboard operations, (6) Experience in
troubleshooting oceanographic instrumentation, and (7) Excellent problem
solving and critical thinking skills, good organizational skills, and the
ability and availability to assist and support fieldwork trips.


The position will be located at the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and
Meteorological Laboratory's Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystem Division in
Miami, FL.
