Tenure-track Faculty Position in Mineralogy/Petrology

The Department of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment<https://www.niu.edu/earth-atmosphere-environment/index.shtml> at Northern Illinois University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August, 2023.



We are seeking an individual whose research interests are in the broad areas of mineralogy, petrology, economic geology or a closely allied field. The applicant is expected to develop a teaching and research program that integrates with one or more of the department’s related strengths in experimental mineralogy/petrology, geochemistry, igneous petrology, mineral physics, planetary geology, structural geology, and/or volcanology. The department’s facilities include an array of analytical instruments (e.g., SEM-EDS, XRF, XRD, ion chromatograph, and mass spectrometers) and field equipment. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous externally-funded research program, supervise Ph.D. and M.S. students, and have a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. in the geosciences or a related field is required at the time of appointment.
