Vacancy: Postdoctoral researcher position in carbon cycle modelling and
data assimilation at Lund University, Sweden
The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science
(https://www.nateko.lu.se) together with the ICOS Carbon Portal
(https://www.icos-cp.eu/observations/carbon-portal) are seeking to
appoint a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in carbon
cycle modelling, data assimilation, inverse modelling or applied
mathematics.
The appointee will be part of a vibrant and international team within
the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. The
department operates and further develops the Carbon Cycle Data
Assimilation System and the LUMIA inverse modelling framework capable of
quantifying sources and sinks of carbon dioxide through the assimilation
of observational data. The department also hosts the ICOS Carbon Portal
that develops operational data products and services building on ICOS
observations for analysing the state of the carbon cycle of Europe.
The position is partly linked to the EU-funded project CoCO2
(https://coco2-project.eu) which will prepare an operational modelling
system to monitor anthropogenic CO2 emissions across the world. For this
the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science will work on
developing and applying a coupled carbon cycle fossil fuel data
assimilation system. The appointee will be a member of the inverse
modelling group; he/she will work on the development and application of
the assimilation system together with the project partners and
international collaborators. Furthermore the appointee will work
together with the ICOS Carbon Portal on setting up and running a
demonstrator of regional atmospheric CO2 inversion model.
The post will be available for 36 months, with a preferred starting date
of June 2022.
Closing date for applications: 04 May 2022
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and
experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and
an asset.
