The Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences is the largest academic faculty within Lincoln University and is made up of four research-driven Departments: Soil and Physical Sciences; Agricultural Sciences; Wine, Food and Molecular Biosciences; and Pest Management and Conservation.

Te āhua o Te Tūrunga - the nature of the position

We are inviting applications for an academic appointment as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Soil Microbiology within the Department of Soil and Physical Sciences. The Department has a global reputation for research excellence. Our teaching is innovative and led by our cutting-edge research. Our graduates make an impact in the land-based sector by contributing to the sustainable management of soils and the wider environment. Departmental research activities span a wide range from pedology and soil resource characterisation to soil chemistry, biology, physics and fertility, biogeochemistry, earth sciences, water science and climate change. The Department is responsible for the delivery of Soil Science courses from diploma to postgraduate level as well as the delivery of first-year courses in chemistry, physics, and earth science.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Whēako - Skills/experiences for the role

The qualifications and skills we are seeking for this role are:

Essential

  *   A PhD in Soil Science, or another closely related discipline
  *   An innovative research agenda, including research publications in peer-reviewed journals that relate to soil biology, microbiology and soil fertility
  *   A proven track record in attracting external research funding and working with a variety of stakeholders
  *   An ability to inspire, be creative and show innovation in your teaching
  *   The capability, energy and enthusiasm to teach undergraduate soil science, soil microbiology; plus the ability to teach, supervise and mentor soil science and soil microbiology at postgraduate level
  *   Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds
  *   Excellent science communication skills

Desirable

  *   Knowledge or experience in soil-plant-nutrient-microbial interactions; statistics or bioinformatics; molecular microbiology

 Applicants with research interests in the areas of soil microbiological systems, soil fertility, and familiarity with New Zealand farming systems will be viewed favourably.

This is a full time, permanent position.
