We are looking for a Section Manager, Basic & Applied Research to join our
team. Do you have the following skills?

The selected candidate will:

*	Manage, supervise, and administratively direct the activities of
employees in the Basic & Applied Research Section.
*	Work closely with the NASA research scientists to determine near-
and long-term tasks, priorities, schedules, upgrades, improvements, and
reporting items.
*	Establish daily and weekly task priorities and resource assignments,
direct the science staff, and resolve schedule and resource issues as they
arise.
*	Communicate the status of ongoing activities to customers and
management.
*	Manage employee performance, conduct interviews and hiring, and
evaluate performance.
*	Perform other duties as required.  

Here's What You'll Need:

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the
candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the
right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been
advertised.

*	BS degree from an accredited science school and ten (10) years of
direct science experience, or MS degree from an accredited science school
and eight (8) years of direct science experience, or Ph.D. and four (4)
years of direct science experience.
*	Experience working in science and analytical laboratories.
*	Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as
excellent interpersonal skills.
*	Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft
Project.

Requisition Preferences:

*	Bachelor's degree in Geology, Planetary Science, or ten (10) years
of direct science direct scientific experience, or a Masters degree from an
accredited science school and eight (8) years of direct science experience,
or Ph.D. and four (4) years of direct scientific experience.
*	Advanced degree in geology or planetary science.
*	Published in peer-reviewed science journals.
*	Experience leading and managing people in a project or lab
environment.
*	Familiarity with a research environment and planetary sciences.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work
depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May
require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak
periods and surge requirements.

cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and
