The Department of Earth Sciences is offering four full-time permanent lectureship posts, and aim to recruit in the areas of: geochemistry, environmental geosciences, climate hazards, hydrogeology, igneous/metamorphic petrology, planetary science. However, we will consider applications in any area of Earth Sciences. There is a possibility of one of these posts being appointed at Associate Professor level for a person with the commensurate level of experience.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to pursue research of international quality that enhances, complements and/or extends current activity in the Department of Earth Sciences, and to provide academic leadership in the development of their subject area. It is also expected that the post-holder will contribute to all aspects of the academic life of the Department and College. They will also contribute to the advancement of knowledge by research and scholarship that is world-leading and meets the highest standards of excellence in terms of originality, impact and rigour.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue research of international quality that enhances, complements and/or extends current activity in the Department of Earth Sciences, and to provide academic leadership in the development of their subject area.
Key Requirements
Candidates will have a PhD, or equivalent qualification, in a appropriate discipline and extensive knowledge and expertise in an area of Earth, Environmental or Planetary Sciences at a level appropriate for the conduct of research, publishing new knowledge in leading international research journals, and teaching undergraduate and taught postgraduate courses.
Academic knowledge that is relevant to at least one of our target recruitment areas of geochemistry, environmental geosciences, climate hazards, hydrogeology, igneous/metamorphic petrology, and/or planetary sciences is essential.
A PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) or other teaching qualification is desirable.
Experience of student assessment, curriculum design, and module development and a commitment to the pursuit of an ambitious research vision at UCL is essential.
