Job Description:


The Applied Aviation Sciences Department of the College of Aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Daytona Beach, FL invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Meteorology to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses supporting our Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Meteorology degree program as well as our Applied Meteorology minor. The ERAU-Daytona Beach B.S. Meteorology (MET) program is a traditional, calculus-based meteorology program meeting all American Meteorological Society (AMS) guidelines for a degree in meteorology and all OPM GS-1340 series requirements.  This is a nine-month position renewed annually with the possibility of summer teaching assignments.

The position includes a mix of teaching, research, and service obligations. The candidate must possess demonstrated, effective teaching skills at the undergraduate level, including the ability to relate theory to application through experiential learning. Basic teaching requirements are 9 undergraduate credit hours (three courses) per semester. The candidate is expected to develop new course materials as well as teach previously developed courses.

Candidates are expected to pursue moderate levels of research activity and are highly encouraged to seek funded research opportunities. Candidates are also encouraged to participate in research projects involving students.

Service duties may include student mentorship, curriculum evaluation and assessment, committee participation, and project leadership.



Qualifications:


PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or Climatology is required.  The position includes teaching assignments primarily in upper-level undergraduate physical meteorology (remote sensing, precipitation processes, radiation) and/or atmospheric modeling/numerical weather prediction.  Additional introductory-level teaching assignments include Survey of Meteorology and Aviation Weather.  Other potential teaching assignments include non-calculus-based meteorology courses supporting the Applied Meteorology minor (e.g., Thunderstorms, Satellite and Radar Interpretation, Climate Change, Tropical Meteorology, Applied Climatology). Research experience in physical meteorology or numerical weather prediction is highly desired. Strong data analysis/computing/visualization skills (using Python in particular for course instruction) using data formats such as GRIB and netCDF is highly desired. Experience in aviation meteorology for piloted or autonomous aircraft is desired.
