The School of the Environment at the University of Toronto has two open tenure stream faculty positions this year, as follows:
Assistant Professor - Communicating Climate Change
We seek candidates conducting interdisciplinary research on how climate change is understood and communicated among diverse knowledge producers and audiences. Ideally, candidates will have a grounding in both climate science and climate policy, as well as in communication and community engagement. Candidates’ research may include topics such as (but not limited to): how society creates, understands, and acts upon the scientific evidence of climate change; how that evidence is mediated and interpreted through politics, language, art, culture, and religion; and the range of communication strategies employed by diverse actors in climate policy processes.
Assistant Professor – The Sustainability Transition
We seek candidates conducting interdisciplinary research on the social, economic, political, and technological transitions necessary for sustainability. Specifically, we seek candidates versed in science and technology studies, whose research investigates sociotechnical transitions, pathways to decarbonization, and societal changes required to promote sustainability. Candidates’ research must be related to investigating effective solutions for achieving just and sustainable societies, and the technological, socio-economic, institutional, political, and/or cultural change required to do so. We prefer candidates who have demonstrated the ability to build inter- and trans-disciplinary collaborations that navigate the manifold interconnections between science and society.
