The Virginia Department of Energy, Geology and Mineral Resources program,
is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the economic
geology team within Virginia’s geological survey.  The successful candidate
will join a team of geoscientists conducting activities that include
geologic mapping, mineral resource investigations, monitoring mineral and
energy economic trends, and providing technical assistance to the public,
educational institutions, and industry on geological-related inquiries.



*TO QUALIFY:*  The successful candidate will have documented experience of
serving in a lead role on geoscientific projects, working effectively both
independently and as part of a team, and completing assignments within
established timeframes.  The qualified candidate will be knowledgeable
about Virginia’s geology and the basic geological processes that are
involved in the formation of economic deposits of mineral and energy
resources.  Previous experience in one or more of the fields of mining and
resource extraction, exploration, economic assessments and minerals
valuation will be considered a plus.  This position will require a high
level of competency using ESRI ArcGIS (10.x), and the ability to prepare
and edit geologic maps and reports using personal computers in a Windows OS
environment.  The most qualified candidate will have excellent
communication and technical writing skills.



The physical demands of this position may at times require field work,
navigation over rough terrain (i.e., stooping, crawling, and bending), and
carrying up to 30 pounds of equipment.  Graduation from an accredited
college or university with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology or a
geological sciences related field is preferred.  A valid driver’s license
with a good driving record is required, and as part of the pre-employment
process the successful candidate must pass a drug and alcohol test.
