Job Description
To serve as radar scientist on the University of Wyoming King Air (UWKA) facility, which is base-funded through the National Science Foundation.
The successful applicant will work with University of Wyoming-owned radars that are operated onboard the King Air Research Aircraft Facility. The University operates W-band and Ka-band airborne Doppler radars for studies of cloud and precipitation physics and dynamics. Duties include working with the engineering team to maintain and operate the radars, participating in field campaigns that utilize the radars on the King Air and other NSF aircraft, working with data from the radars to provide QA/QC'd data to users of the facility, and exploring atmospheric science research questions utilizing radar measurements.
This position will be filled at either the Associate or Senior Research Scientist level, depending on experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•       M.S. or Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, atmospheric physics, applied mathematics, or closely related field. At least two years of relevant work experience beyond an M.S degree may substitute for a Ph.D.;
•       Basic expertise with radars and radar meteorology;
•       Demonstrated experience working with random signals and signal processing;
•       Ability and willingness to participate as a radar and/or system operator on research aircraft, including deployments away from Laramie (typically for 3-4 weeks, 1-2 times per year);
•       Demonstrated proficiency in advanced scientific programming;
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•       Knowledge and experience with remote sensors utilizing microwave frequencies;
•       Ability to work with faculty and researchers on the development and use of advanced radar products to study the atmosphere;
•       A willingness to rapidly learn and build a foundation for a successful career as facility airborne radar scientist;
•       Ability to work in a team;
•       Strong oral and written communication skills;
•       Experience with airborne radars
