Jupiter is hiring a dynamic individual to contribute to development of our
next-generation ocean models. You will work with data scientists, physical
scientists, and software engineers to implement, interpret, and scale our
coastal ocean capabilities globally. Model preparation, calibration, and
execution will be primary parts of your contributions to Jupiter’s mission.
Innovations toward automation, cloud deployment, and open-source solutions
will provide you the opportunity to think differently about coastal
modeling.
Core Functions of the Position
------------------------------
-Contribute to building comprehensive hydrodynamic coastal modeling systems
worldwide
-Find, curate, and adapt data sets from a variety of sources
-Couple multi-scale climate, weather, ocean, wave and hydrologic models
-Execute models efficiently, and ensure the results are sound
-Post-process output from hydrodynamic models for input to other models
-Calibrate and validate models as required
-Contribute to reports and presentations
-Collaborate with other teams within Jupiter who are working on
complementary product components
-Occasional travel may be required
Technical Skills
----------------
-Experience with coastal hydrodynamic, wave and runup models
-Knowledge of calibration and validation on coastal ocean and/or estuarine
circulation models using rigorous statistical methodologies
-Strong coding, debugging, and scientific visualization skills in FORTRAN,
-Python, or other similar languages in a Linux OS environment
-Working knowledge of probability and statistics
Additional desirable skills:
-Knowledge of open-source GIS software such as QGIS
-Knowledge of commercial cloud computing environments
-Experience working with parallel programming on HPC architectures
Qualifications
--------------
-A Doctorate or Masters degree from an accredited college or university
with a field of study closely related to Physical Oceanography or Ocean
Engineering
-Three or more years of experience in numerical modeling and/or data
analysis
-Commitment to excellence and high standards
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
-Ability to manage priorities and workflow
-Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly
changing priorities with enthusiasm
-Acute attention to detail
-Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects
-Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
-Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
-Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
For Colorado Residents Only- If you are hired into a Colorado work
location, the compensation range for this position is between $90,000 and
$140,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on
your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. For
part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
Base Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to
education, work experience, certifications, etc. As of the date of this
posting, In addition to your salary, Jupiter Intelligence offers the
