Position Description



Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.



The position is responsible for, along with other environmental scientists and engineers, the data collection, analysis, and processing required for the development of the Nevada greenhouse gas emissions inventory report, and for providing technical support for the development of programs that reduce greenhouse gas emissions the Division is engaged in or are related to the Nevada Climate Initiative. Examples of duties include working with large amounts of data, the use and development of data spreadsheets, the use of computational models and statistical tools; researching federal, state, and local regulations and policies; developing policies and state regulations; reviewing and preparing technical documentation such as reports, guidance and other technical documents; collaborating with national, state, and local entities on behalf of the Division; and making public presentations in meetings and hearings relating to Division programs and policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  *   Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and three years of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and five years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Scientist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

  *   Experience investigating, reporting, quantifying, modeling, or regulating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is required.
