Application for Postdoctoral Research Associate

The High Meadows Environmental Institute has an opening for a postdoctoral or more senior researcher in the area of air-sea interactions to work with Prof. Luc Deike, in collaboration with Dr. Brandon Reichl from NOAA-GFDL. The candidate will work on a mechanistic formulation for gas transfer, that fully accounts for the effects of sea-state, wind, and key physico-chemical variables such as diffusivity, solubility and temperature through the role of bubble mediated gas exchange, based on the formulations from Deike and Melville 2018; Reichl and Deike 2020. The candidate will use the state-of-the-art spectra wave model, WAVEWATCH III, leveraging recent progress in wave modeling, to directly estimate the breaking statistic, and evaluate the global and regional bubble contribution to air-sea gas exchange for various gases key to the climate system such as carbon dioxide. The modeling approach will be systematically evaluated against recent and historical data sets.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in numerical modeling and prior knowledge of ocean surface wave dynamics, but candidates with the necessary background in geophysical fluid dynamics and/or physics & engineering will be given full consideration. A Ph.D. in a related field is required. The position is available for one year, with a possibility for renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding.

Applicants should include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae including a publication list, and contact information for at least three references by applying at the Princeton University Academic Hiring website at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/22121

This position is subject to the University's background check policy. Princeton University is an equal opportunity employer/affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
