Associate Professor<http://www.atmos.albany.edu/facstaff/jminder/> Justin Minder in the University at Albany Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences<https://www.albany.edu/daes> is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to contribute to the NSF-funded Winter Precipitation Type Research Multi-scale Experiment (WINTRE-MIX). The experiment’s overarching goal is to better understand how multi-scale processes influence the variability and predictability of precipitation type and amount under near freezing surface conditions. The field phase of WINTRE-MIX will take place in northern New York and southern Quebec during February – March of 2022 and will involve a range of observations including instrumented aircraft, mobile radars, and data from the New York State Mesonet<http://nysmesonet.org/>.

Researchers with interests in winter storms, mesoscale dynamics, precipitation processes, and/or mesoscale numerical weather prediction are encouraged to apply. By the start of the position, candidates should hold a PhD in atmospheric science or a closely related discipline, conferred within the last three years, from a college or university accredited by the U.S Dept. of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. They should have the ability to work both independently and as a member of a diverse team. They should also have some experience analyzing numerical weather prediction model output, radar data, and/or field observations. Ideal candidates would also have some experience with mesoscale numerical modeling, mesoscale dynamics, and/or airborne observations. Applicants from demographic groups underrepresented in the atmospheric sciences are especially encouraged to apply.

Terms of appointment are for one year, renewable for up to two additional years, subject to satisfactory performance. The position will be based out of University at Albany’s new state-of-the-art ETEC building<https://www.albany.edu/about/our-campuses/etec>.

Applicants are asked to submit electronically: (1) a curriculum vitae (including a publication list), (2) the names of three individuals who can provide a letter of reference and (3) a statement of professional interests to Dr. Justin Minder (jminder at albany.edu<mailto:jminder at albany.edu>). The position will remain open until it is filled. Preference will be given to applications that are received before 22 September 2021.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Justin Minder (jminder at albany.edu<mailto:jminder at albany.edu>) to discuss the position.
