DESCRIPTION

Responsible for preparing, shipping, receiving, and organizing air samples and log data from a global air sampling network. Assists with carbon dioxide analysis of glass flasks containing air samples on an automated flask analysis system. Performs mass spectrometer analysis of carbon dioxide and oxygen isotopes in CO2 extracted from air samples. Maintain accurate records needed for calibration and reduction of isotopic data including management and maintenance of extracted air sample inventory and database. Collect air samples for oxygen and carbon dioxide analysis biweekly on the Scripps Pier. Perform other duties related to the carbon dioxide sampling and analysis program, including data entry and quality control, and station network correspondence, as required.



QUALIFICATIONS

  *   Ability to perform routine maintenance procedures on laboratory equipment.
  *   Strong organizational skills.
  *   Ability to perform repetitive laboratory tasks meticulously.
  *   Mechanical skills, ability to use standard power and hand tools.
  *   Experience working in a scientific laboratory.
  *   Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  *   Ability to operate calculators and computers, including PC Windows and LINUX systems, and including spreadsheet, database, and graphing techniques.
  *   Ability to accurately record data and enter into appropriate medium.
  *   Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principals. Enthusiasm for learning and genuine interest in scientific research.
  *   Skill in numerical calculations for data reduction.
  *   Ability to perform routine analysis of air samples.
