JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor in Organic Geochemistry

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Organic Geochemistry in the Department of Geology & Geophysics and the interdepartmental Program in Ecology and Evolution. The successful candidate is expected to build a strong extramurally funded research program using organic geochemistry approaches to investigate Earth systems. We seek applicants who complement existing research strengths at the University and address questions spanning broad scales - e.g., from organisms, molecules, and minerals to landscapes and global dynamics.

This search is partially supported by a 5-year, $20 million NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 grant to the University. The project focuses on examining microbial life and its ecological consequences and has enabled the university to hire other faculty with related interests. The successful candidate will benefit from the project's scientific outcomes and infrastructure, such as new ICP-MS and Orbitrap LC-MS instruments, and will contribute to the project's institutional capacity building in the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate may also align well with the interdisciplinary lab facilities in a newly constructed building expected to open in February 2022 as part of the UW Science Initiative ( http://www.uwyo.edu/science-initiative/centers.html ), adjacent to both the Geology Building and UW's STEM teaching facility, the Senator Enzi Building, which opened in 2016.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment in a relevant discipline. They must also demonstrate the ability to publish in top peer-reviewed journals, obtain external grant funding, and advise graduate students. Candidates must have a v alid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy .

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Competitive candidates will be able to build strong research and teaching roles with regard to biogeochemical processes and the rapidly growing discipline of organic geochemistry, particularly as applied to paleoclimatology or biogeochemical cycles. The person in this position will contribute to teaching in geochemical cycles and advanced courses for both the department and Program in Ecology and Evolution. The University of Wyoming maintains facilities that support cutting-edge research in organic geochemical techniques, including facilities for stable isotope and biogeochemical analyses, DNA extraction and library preparation, and high-performance computing. Potential to use of these facilities will be favorable.
