Postdoctoral Research Associate in Paleoclimate Modeling and Analysis
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University and the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in paleoclimate modeling and analysis.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of researchers at Yale and CIRES, along with project collaborators at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), to investigate the influence of ice sheets and ocean-atmosphere interaction on the hydroclimate of the western United States during the Last Glacial Maximum, primarily through the use of coupled climate model simulations. The project is interdisciplinary, and the Postdoctoral Research Associate will also have the opportunity to participate in field work, lab work, and analysis of paleoclimate data in addition to modeling activities.
A Ph.D. in atmospheric, oceanic, or climate science, or a closely related discipline, is required. Ideal qualifications include familiarity with configuring and running the Community Earth System Model (CESM) or similar comprehensive climate models. Strong quantitative, programming, communication, and time management skills are also essential.
The position will be awarded for one year, with extension for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance. Residence in Connecticut will be required to qualify for benefits, but the position will have an approximately 62% appointment at Yale and 38% remote appointment at CIRES. The position will include an annual salary of $60,000.
Applicants should provide a CV including complete publication list, a brief research statement describing research interests and relevant experience, and three confidential letters of recommendation via http://apply.interfolio.com/96769. Applications will be reviewed starting on December 1, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.
