Job Posting for Assistant Professor, Earth Surface Processes (Geomorphology),
Weber State University (Ogden, Utah)

Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track
position starting Fall 2022. We seek a person with expertise in Earth
Surface Processes (Geomorphology). The successful candidate will be
appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of
Earth and Environmental Sciences. This position provides tremendous
collaborative opportunities with faculty in the department, across the
College of Science, including the new Environmental Science Program,
and with other departments across campus (e.g., Geography,
Environment, and Sustainability).

The successful candidate is expected to: 1) teach 3 to 4 lower- and
upper-division courses per semester, which may include Physical
Geology lecture/lab, Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Geomorphology, Soils,
and other courses in their area(s) of expertise. Ideally, the
candidate will also assist teaching surficial mapping in Field Methods
and Field Camp; 2) establish an active and sustained research program
that informs teaching, complements existing department specialties,
and includes mentoring undergraduate students; 3) seek external
funding in support of teaching and/or research; and 4) establish
collaborations with department members, faculty across campus, as well
as research with University and community partners.

Minimum Requirements include:
- A Ph.D. (or one expected by August 2022) in Geosciences, Geography,
or a closely related discipline.
- Expertise in earth surface processes, such as geomorphology,
quaternary science, or similar specialty.
- Evidence of excellent undergraduate teaching and strong interest in
using active-learning pedagogies.
- A demonstrated commitment to conducting high-quality research, to
mentoring undergraduate researchers, and to integrating research into
the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications include:
- A demonstrated record of scholarship and successful grant acquisition.
- Expertise in shallow geophysics, geologic hazards mapping and
analysis, geospatial applications, and/or neotectonics.
- Expertise in current departmental research and teaching emphases
(surface processes, environmental science, planning, hazards, climate
resilience, development, resources, etc.).
- Ability to build connections with local industries, government
agencies, and/or community stakeholders.
