Teaching/administration position in Weather and Forecasting at UCLA

The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) seeks a Ph.D. level Atmospheric Scientist to lead weather-related educational activities, engage with the broader weather forecasting community, provide weather-related expertise in the department, and contribute to the teaching and practical training of the next generation of Atmospheric Science professionals. Individuals with a history of and commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining strong connections to the meteorological forecasting community, building relationships with organizations that can offer internships to undergraduate and graduate students, teaching in the areas of weather forecasting and other areas of atmospheric science as appropriate, advising students in career development for weather forecasting and related fields, and related activities. It is hoped that these activities will contribute to the growth of the undergraduate majors in AOS.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, or related fields as well as industrial experience. A consideration in the evaluation includes knowledge of and experience with or evidence of commitment and willingness to learn evidence-based teaching techniques and best practices for integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The target start date is on February 1, 2022.
