Postdoctoral Researcher on a collaborative project in Marine Aerosol
Chemistry and Ice Nucleation, Texas A&M

Supported by a recently funded NSF grant, the successful postdoctoral
researcher will lead a new series of experiments designed to better
understand how phytoplankton affect the composition and properties of marine
aerosol. We will grow phytoplankton in the laboratory using continuous
culture techniques to manipulate phytoplankton growth rates and
physiological status to learn what affects the production of atmospheric
aerosols and ice nucleating particles (INPs). Working closely with
oceanographers, she/he/they will analyze the chemical composition and ice
nucleating properties of aerosols emitted from phytoplankton, which will be
related to their physiological status, composition, and growth conditions.
The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to play a leading role
in experimental design, data analysis, and communicating the research
findings through peer-reviewed publication. In the lab, they will be
responsible for the measurement of ice nucleation and associated Raman
spectroscopy, and the characterization of aerosols..
