Faculty Position in APPLIED TERRESTRIAL ECOLOGY

The School of Resource and Environmental Management at Simon Fraser
University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada is an applied graduate
and undergraduate school in which both social and natural scientists
apply inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to research in resource
and environmental management. Our mission is to inspire leadership and
improve decision-making in environmental management through
internationally recognized research, education, professional practice,
and community engagement to support a socially just and ecologically
sustainable world. We seek to fill a tenure-track faculty position in
Applied Terrestrial Ecology at the Assistant Professor rank and invite
applications from Ph.D. scientists who will develop an internationally
recognized program of research, teaching, and knowledge mobilization in
this field.

(1) Suitable candidates will have a strong background in applied
terrestrial ecology with expertise in areas such as applied forest
ecology, applied wildlife ecology, landscape ecology, or terrestrial
conservation biology.

(2) Special consideration will be given to candidates with research
expertise in ecosystem-based management, climate change adaptation, fire
ecology and management, systems thinking and resilience, and the intent
to research a terrestrial ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest as a
component of their research program, in collaboration with Indigenous
communities.

(3) Suitable candidates will have experience working across disciplines,
collaborating with both natural and social scientists, and engaging with
sectors outside academia. Candidates will have experience translating
and/or mobilizing their research findings to diverse audiences outside
the academy such as policy makers, practitioners, or communities.

The successful candidate will conduct research, supervise graduate
students, and practice inclusive teaching in graduate and undergraduate
courses including forest ecosystem management, systems thinking, and
applied ecology. The expected start date is July 1, 2022.

advancing the interests of underrepresented groups, specifically women,
Indigenous people, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and
sexual and gender diverse communities. We strongly encourage individuals
from these groups to apply. We are especially interested in candidates
with a demonstrated history of advocating for equity, diversity, and
inclusion.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian
