[ES_JOBS_NET] PostDoc in Atmospheric Chemistry Modelling in the Tropics at Goethe University Frankfurt
Anna Possner
apossner at iau.uni-frankfurt.de
Wed May 26 06:00:36 MDT 2021
We are looking for a PostDoc for the duration of four years,*starting
from July 1*^*st* *2021, or soon thereafter.*
Recent work has demonstrated thatparticles nucleated in the upper
troposphere may contribute considerably to cloud condensation nuclei
(CCN) in the lower troposphere of the tropics. But where and how? If you
interested in exploring these questions using numerical models then join
us at Goethe University.
At Goethe University you will work with Dr. Anna Possner and Prof.
Joachim Curtius at the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental
Sciences on Campus Riedberg in Frankfurt/Main. We will use passive
tracer simulations with the ICON model at various resolutions to: (i)
contextualise aircraft measurements obtained over the Amazon basin, and
(ii) to understand the downward transport of newly formed particles in
the tropics. This will include the development and evaluation of ICON
configurations over the Amazon basin and the tropics. During this time,
you will also be closely collaborating with the people planning,
undertaking and analysing field measurements over the tropics during
CAFE-BRAZIL. Further simulations with ICON-MESSy and comparisons to
MECON simulations in collaboration with project partners are also planned.
In addition to the advisor team at Goethe University you will be
embedded in an active and collaborative community of PostDocs and PhDs
of the joint Transregio between Goethe University, the
Johannes-Gutenberg University and Max Planck Institute at Mainz. To find
out more about this and other projects visit https://tpchange.de/.
*To apply for this position you should hold (or be close to defend) a
PhD in atmospheric modelling or atmospheric chemistry. Preference will
be given to candidates with experience in model development, atmospheric
chemistry, or the dynamics of the tropics. Model development, such as
the implementation of passive tracers, is an integral part of this
position. Proficient skill in programming languages such as Fortran and
Python are thus an absolute necessity. In addition, previous experience
in working with regional weather/climate models such as WRF, ICON or
COSMO is preferable. Publication of the results in peer-reviewed
scientific journals and presentations at international conferences are
expected. Further funds for professional development are also available.*
Interested, or want to know more? Then please send a motivation letter,
CV, publication list, copies of relevant certificates, preferred
starting date, and the names of at minimum two references**as one PDF to
Dr. Anna Possner, apossner at iau.uni-frankfurt.de. Review of all
applications will start on*by June 15**^th **, 2021 *and will continue
until the position is filled. For informal inquiries please contact Dr.
Anna Possner.
