Dr. Xiangming Xiao's group is seeking one highly motivated graduate student to join the interdisciplinary research team at the Center for Earth Observation and Modeling (http://www.eomf.ou.edu), University of Oklahoma.
The candidates could start in fall semester, 2021.
GRA Position #1 (Land Cover and Land Use Change, Agriculture). The candidate will study land cover and land use changes and their impacts on climate, water resources and biogeochemistry in the Southern Great Plains (Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas), and Louisiana, USA, with a focus on forests, grasslands and croplands.
Graduate Program: Candidates may apply for Ph.D. graduate program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology, the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma, USA. Qualification: Candidates need to have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in biology, ecology, geography, natural resources, forestry, agriculture, environmental science, Earth System science, statistics, mathematics, data science, and computer science. Candidates need to have work experience in one or more areas: in-situ data collection, remote sensing, GIS, biogeochemical models, computer programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, IDL, C++, C), and statistic software (e.g., R, Matlab). Good communication and writing skills are needed.
Financial Support: The successful candidates will be supported with a 12-month Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) stipend (US$2,305 per month) and annual tuition. The financial support is renewable annually dependent upon the project progress, candidate's performance and fund availability. These positions are currently supported by research grants from NSF, NASA and USDA over the period of 2020-2024. We anticipate that candidates with master's degree will graduate with Ph.D. in four years, and candidates with a bachelor's degree will graduate with Ph.D. in six years.
