POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Assistant Professor of Soil Chemistry
12-month; 80% Research, 20% Teaching

LOCATION: Department of Crop and Soil Science, NC State University

SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience

DATE POSITION OPENS: March 10, 2021

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: May 15, 2021 or when a suitable applicant is
identified

We seek a candidate who would bring critical basic Soil Chemistry research
expertise that complements departmental and college efforts, such as
increasing carbon sequestration in soils, improving water quality, and
enhancing plant nutrient use and fertilizer efficiency. We anticipate that
the successful candidate would couple laboratory and field experiments with
cutting-edge spectroscopic, microscopic, and analytical approaches. This
research may help to manage non-point source contaminant issues and provide
guidance to industries to help mitigate pollution, and thus protect natural
resources and human health. The individual will have specific expertise in
strategic research areas, such as water quality, plant nutrient chemistry,
or carbon cycling in soils. The incumbent would also teach graduate soil
chemistry, and another course to be determined based on department’s needs.
A Ph.D. in Soil Science or a related field with extensive research
experience is required.

Inclusiveness and diversity are academic imperatives and thus are
university goals. We are particularly interested in candidates who have
experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a
demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for
students from underrepresented groups.

The application should be submitted at https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/141429
and should include a brief description of their proposed research
activities, statement of teaching philosophy, curriculum vitae, and the
names and contact information of three references. Screening will begin on
May 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. Additional
questions should be directed to Dr. Owen Duckworth, Chair of the Search
Committee at owen_duckworth at ncsu.edu, North Carolina State University,
Campus Box 7620, Raleigh, NC 27695-7619; Telephone: (919) 513-1577.
