One (1) Graduate Research Assistant position, and one (1) Postdoctoral Researcher position are available beginning Fall 2021 in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, SOEST, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Graduate Assistant Position Requirements (MS/PhD): The successful applicant will work on high resolution dynamical and machine learning models of tropical cyclogenesis under various climate change and climate variability scenarios. Applicants must have a B.S. or M.S. degree in atmospheric science, environmental science, physics, or closely related fields. Strong oral and written communication skills and academic performance records are required. Any prior experience in weather modeling, machine learning and python coding will also be considered but is not required. The successful applicant must complete the UHM Graduate Division application process and be accepted into the UHM Atmospheric Sciences Graduate program.
Postdoctoral Researcher Position Requirements: The successful applicant will work on high-resolution weather and climate modeling in the tropical Pacific, with a focus on understanding the dynamics of atmospheric circulation response to El Niño-Southern Oscillation. Applicants must have a PhD degree in atmospheric science, oceanography, environmental science, or closely related fields, strong oral and written communication skills, strong publication record, and must have demonstrated the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Applicants should have experience running weather forecasting and/or global climate models. Preference will be given to applicants with familiarity with CESM and/or WRF/MPAS. Experience in using advanced statistical methods for climate data analysis, and/or working with paleoclimate data will also be considered.
