The Hydrology Engineer uses professional engineering concepts to perform
moderately complex engineering assignments in the field of
hydrometeorological observations of the atmosphere and landscape to support
major research efforts. Under general supervision, assists with equipment
design, preparation, deployment, and maintenance of a wide variety of
hydrometeorological and hydroclimatological stations throughout the west,
that may include soil moisture and surface meteorology, radars, profilers,
radiosondes, and many others. The key focus of the Hydrology Engineer will
be stream measurements including streamflow (manual and automated) and
isotopic composition of streams, groundwater, and precipitation. Stations
will require periodic stream surveys using GPS Total Stations or LIDAR, and
innovative solutions will be needed at sites which are challenging to
measure with conventional instrumentation.

The Hydrology Engineer will work on assignments of moderate scope where
analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
This position supports junior researchers, interns, and graduate students
to prepare and test in the lab, and then deploy and maintain field
equipment in a variety of environments. The Engineer will support long-term
research projects that rely on hydrometeorological monitoring and sampling
as well as keeping current with the latest technologies and research
advances.

At the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes at Scripps, we provide
21st Century water cycle science, technology and outreach to support
effective policies and practices that address the impacts of extreme
weather and water events on the environment, people and the economy of
Western North America. Our goal is to revolutionize the physical
understanding, observations, weather predictions, seasonal outlooks and
climate projections of extreme events in Western North America. More
