MS in Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Geospatial Sciences at
Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.

 

The Department of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences is seeking graduate
research assistants (GRA) interested in Geospatial applications related to
environmental justice, global socio-ecological issues, sustainability,
precision agriculture, natural resource management, ecosystem services, and
public health outcomes.

 

The ideal candidate is either familiar with or interested in geospatial
(remote sensing/GIS) applications in environmental sciences. Introductory
coding experience (e.g., R or Python), ArcGIS, QGIS or other geospatial
analysis platforms is a plus, but not mandatory. We are looking for
candidates who have an interest in interdisciplinary research, good oral
communication and writing skills work independently.

 

Specific GRA responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

spatial data collection and analysis

processing and interpreting satellite/drone/UAV images, 

analyzing quantitative data in the geospatial context,

assisting investigators with other research-related project activities, and 

presenting findings at scientific meetings and submitting journal articles 

 

GRAs are encouraged to develop their own thesis research questions to pursue
within the context

of the broader projects. The GRA position is for two years (MS) contingent
upon funding and satisfactory performance. The position is funded for the
first two years with no teaching responsibilities.

 

This research will investigate applications of remote sensing, GIS, and/or
machine learning techniques to address environmental change analysis &
management related to ecosystems and vulnerable communities (i.e. habitat
disturbance, hazards and disasters, wildfires, ecosystem services, and
environmental justice) in urban and wildlife urban interface settings.
