After almost 10 years at the helm of the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association (JA&WMA), Dr. S.T. Rao is retiring as Technical Editor-in-Chief. JA&WMA is one of the oldest (since 1951) peer-reviewed journals covering the fields of air quality and waste management. JA&WMA seeks to be the leading technical communicator for applied and policy-relevant science and technology topics focused on protecting the environment and human health for air and waste management. During Dr. Rao's tenure, JA&WMA has increased its size, reputation, and international profile by significantly increasing the journal's Impact Factor; adding Associate Editors spanning three continents; increasing special issues and invited papers; expanding topic areas; and significantly reducing the time between manuscript submittal and publication. Dr. Rao's tireless dedication to improving JA&WMA is greatly appreciated.

The Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) is seeking candidates for Technical Editor-in-Chief to lead the journal to continued success. This is a part-time contractual position with the individual operating out of their permanent location. The position includes an honorarium and modest support for clerical staff and expenses. Anticipated time commitment is 10-15 hours per week. A complete job description, details of the application process, and timeline are available online at https://www.awma.org/eicsearch21. Please contact A&WMA Managing Editor Lisa Bucher with questions; e-mail: lbucher at awma.org<mailto:lbucher at awma.org>; phone: +1-412-904-6023.

Qualified candidates should send their applications to:

Journal Technical Editor-in-Chief Search Committee
E-mail: journalsearch at awma.org<mailto:journalsearch at awma.org>

Applications should include (1) a cover letter (3 pages maximum) describing qualifications for the position, technical and managerial strengths, the willingness to take on the responsibility for at least 5 years, and a brief description of their vision for JA&WMA; (2) a resume indicating past experience in preparing, reviewing, and editing scientific manuscripts; and (3) names and contact information of three references familiar with the candidate's technical and managerial qualifications. In the cover letter, the candidate should also indicate their willingness to either work alone or potentially as part of a multi-editor model with divided responsibilities (e.g., for air vs. waste management manuscripts). Short-listed candidates will be asked to submit more detailed information.

Review of applications will begin September 10, 2021 and will continue until a suitable applicant is found. A search committee comprised of members of A&WMA's Publications Committee and Editorial Review Board will review all applications and interview the best qualified candidates.
