Field Application Scientist

About the role:
Reporting to the Director of Americas Sales, Scientific Instrumentation, this position will play a pivotal role in working with regulators such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and customers from industry to state and local regulators for measuring hazardous air pollutants. This is a high-impact role that is critical to our goals of improving health by better measuring the pollutants in our communities.  This position has a significant practical science and measurement component, and it is expected that the scientist in this role will spend time making lab-based measurements, but will also go to the field and travel
The Field Applications Scientist will be responsible for the functions that drive top line growth including, but not limited to, working with researchers and regulators on methodologies for measuring hazardous air pollutants with laser technology. You will also travel to customer sites to engage in technical discovery and business development.  The Field Applications Scientist will help keep account managers informed of new markets and also attend conferences and trade shows as needed.  The Field Applications Scientist will develop meaningful relationships with customers and regulators to collaborate on new product breakthroughs.
This position has a flexible start date which will be discussed with the candidate.

What you will be doing:
*         Measurements in customer labs and Picarro headquarters for method development
*         Learning and documenting best practices for using Picarro analyzers to quantify and repeatedly measure various hazardous air pollutants including but not limited to ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, ammonia, and other HAPs
*         Documentation of standard operating procedures for proper use of analyzers for repeatable and reliable measurement. Proper writing and documentation skill is critical.
*         Travel for in-person meetings with customers and partners and to develop key relationships
To be successful in this role you will need:
*         PhD in earth or geosciences, with a preference for experience in atmospheric science or air pollution. This is an ideal role to transition from academia to industry while continuing to develop cutting edge science.
*         Hands on experience with laser optical instruments, isotope ratio mass spectrometry, or other types of gas analyzers
*         Excellent collaboration, documentation, presentation, and communication skills
*         Must be located in Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina, and willing to travel up to 50% of the time
*         "Start-up" mentality and keen on working in a small, yet growing environment
