Michigan Technological University (MTU), the Consortium of Universities for
the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. (CUAHSI), and Lutheran World
Relief (LWR) received support from the National Science Foundation -
International Research Experience for Students program to explore
agricultural community adaptations to extreme hydrometeorological events in
El Salvador. We are seeking MS and PhD students to conduct hydrological and
sociocultural research in El Salvador this coming summer 2021.
Additional information is available at https://www.cuahsi.org/projects/IRES/
Students must apply to participate by January 31, 2021.
Accepted students will participate in an 8-week summer research experience
in select communities of El Salvador from June 15 - August 6, 2021.
Covid-19 Contingencies: There are many unknowns due to the current
pandemic; however, the program organizers are continuing preparations as
best as possible. We are closely monitoring influencing factors and will
assess the feasibility of the program as the proposed dates (mid-June to
early-August 2021) get closer.
Student Eligibility: We seek students with interdisciplinary research
interests and social science backgrounds. Students must be full-time
graduate students (incoming is acceptable) and US citizens.
Funding: All travel expenses (subject to university and NSF Policies) will
be provided and a $2,000 stipend to those who complete the experience.
For more information please see the application website provided above,
which includes a link to a webinar recording with more information on the
activities and application process. Please contact Dr. Luke Bowman at
ljbowman at mtu.edu with questions. Applications must be submitted by January
