Overview

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a science and technical company supporting U.S. Federal Government, located in Rockville, Maryland is currently seeking to hire two Research Scientists to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. This task is to support the generation of emissions of trace gases including greenhouse gases from biomass burning using NOAA and NASA satellite data, specifically fire detection and fire radiative power products.

Responsibilities

General Requirements/Duties:

Support lead NOAA/NESDIS/STAR scientist with the processing of NOAA's algorithm to generate global fire emissions product. Activities include processing multiple years of Aqua MODIS, Terra MODIS, SNPP VIIRS, and NOAA-20 VIIRS data to generate long-term fire emissions record for analysis. Analysis will include validation, trend analysis, greenhouse gas budget calculations, and overall diagnosis of relationship between a warming and dry climate and biomass burning emissions. The data processing will help address key climate questions with respect to fires in different biome types, their frequency and intensity, and feedback mechanisms with air quality.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  * Self-motivated candidate with experience in working with satellite data with a degree in atmospheric science or related subject area. PhD required. MS with several years of related experience will also be considered.
