Assistant Professor - Horticulture

Location: Blackville, SC

The Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences in the College of
Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences at Clemson University is seeking to
fill a 12-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level (50%
research 50% Extension) to work on horticultural crops of economic
importance to South Carolina. The position is located at Clemson
University's Edisto Research & Education Center (EREC), Blackville, South
Carolina (https://www.clemson.edu/cafls/research/edisto). EREC is a
2,356-acre tract of land situated in Blackville, South Carolina. The Center
is an integral part of Clemson University's Public Service activities
including the Agricultural Research and Forestry system, the Precision
Agriculture Program, and the Cooperative Extension Service. Scientists at
the EREC include agricultural engineers, an entomologist, a
horticulturalist, agronomists, and plant pathologists working in field crops
and commercial horticulture. Clemson University is recognized as a Top 25
public university by U.S. News and World Report.

 

The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, innovative, and
extramurally supported research program in fundamental and applied
horticulture, focused on horticultural crops economically important in South
Carolina and the southeastern United States. The research must be responsive
to grower and stakeholder needs. The successful candidate is expected to
collaborate with other faculty members in the department and college and to
interact with stakeholders and commodity groups in the region and around the
country. There is an expectation of excellence in grantsmanship, timely
communication of research findings through publication of peer-reviewed
journal articles, and active participation in training and mentoring of
graduate students and postdocs. In addition to the above responsibilities,
the successful candidate will be expected to communicate findings
effectively with stakeholders and to participate in teaching activities.

 

Salary

QUALIFICATIONS

 

The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Horticulture or a closely related field.
The candidate must also have strong oral and written communication skills to
convey information to different audiences (e.g. colleagues, farmers, and
students). Additional experience beyond graduate school is desirable but not
