natural sources and sinks of carbon to the atmosphere with rapid
climatic and ecosystem shifts. We seek to fill an assistant to
associate-level research position in the field of carbon management,
including marine, coastal and terrestrial carbon. The realm of need
includes the wide-ranging fields of chemical/biological oceanography,
soil science, coastal blue carbon, field biogeochemistry and forest
carbon cycling. Remote sensing and integration with high-resolution
modeling is needed in order to assess, evaluate and eventually monitor
the potential successes and downstream pitfalls of various approaches in
enhancing carbon sequestration. The selection committee is especially
interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their
excellence in research, teaching, or service, to the diversity and
excellence of the academic community. The successful candidate will join
a world-class community of researchers and be expected to achieve
distinction in both research and service.
Lamont Research Professors receive nine-month appointments with partial
salary support provided from institutional sources. An incentive program
encourages the establishment of a vigorous externally funded research
program to provide a portion of their salary support, including
opportunities for summer salary. The successful applicant will also be
eligible to apply for a Columbia University Climate and Life Fellowship,
a three-year appointment that includes three months of salary support
per year as well as a research/travel budget. Applicants should have
established a high-impact, lab-based research program; demonstrated a
record of significant research contributions through publications in
peer-reviewed journals; demonstrated likely or proven success in raising
external funding; and be able to contribute broadly to research at Lamont.
Eligibility requirements include a Ph.D. in Earth or Biological Sciences
or a related field and at least two years of relevant research experience.
