Summary
The Graham Sustainability Institute is seeking a Clean Energy Land Use
Specialist (Research Area Specialist Intermediate) to assist in our work
facilitating engaged research around the implications of decarbonization on
land use, especially in rural communities. The incumbent will work with
Graham’s Climate + Energy team to support a suite of projects within the
Energy Futures Initiative. Specifically, this position will:
- Coordinate outreach and training related to planning and zoning for
clean energy, especially within the context of rural land use.
- Design workshop and webinar agendas to facilitate engagement with
local government policymakers across the urban-rural spectrum about
energy-related programming.
- Assist in designing and launching leadership development opportunities
for faculty and students to be change agents in advancing renewable energy.
- Assist in the management of externally funded projects (currently on
social acceptance and policy-making related to utility-scale solar
development) including coaching student researchers, contributing to survey
instrument design and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data,
project reporting, and ensuring successful completion of project milestones
and deliverables.
- Craft written products (e.g., fact sheets, case studies, web pages,
project reports).
- Participate in relevant local and regional events to engage with
stakeholder groups.
- Assist in evaluating project and program implementation and impact.
Required Qualifications*
- Share Graham’s values of being collaborative, purpose-driven,
inclusive, science-based, and impactful.
- Significant experience communicating with rural local governments or
rural landowners, ideally in Michigan.
- An understanding of local government organization and capacities,
especially related to land use planning and zoning.
- Ability to handle multiple projects at once and an interest in making
connections between them.
- A demonstrated ability to work both independently and on small teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working with culturally and politically diverse
stakeholders.
- Experience with ArcGIS, statistical software, survey design, and/or
qualitative data analysis
- Familiarity with the agricultural sector and/or rural economic
development
- Project management and/or supervisory experience.
Additional Information
Term appointment through December 2024, with opportunities to extend
contingent upon funding.
Location: Ann Arbor; working from other locations within Michigan may be
considered
