*Position Description*
The Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) invites
applications for two new career-track Lecturer positions. IBES faculty have
training across a wide variety of disciplines, including History,
Economics, Sociology, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Anthropology and others. The
Lecturer positions are open to any discipline or area of specialization
that applies a disciplinary perspective to understanding environmental
challenges. Key examples of disciplinary foci include Agriculture,
Geography, Environmental Law and Policy, Geospatial Information
Technologies, Marine Science, and Environment and Inequality (Environmental
Justice, Political Ecology, etc.). We are particularly interested in
candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching.
Lecturers at Brown are members of the regular faculty, have voting
privileges, competitive salaries, full benefits, a career progression
ladder, and an academic leave policy that is analogous to sabbatical.
Lecturers within IBES are expected to teach 4 courses per year, and
contribute to student advising and university service. While the principal
criteria for evaluation of performance is based on teaching excellence,
Lecturers are also expected to make other professional contributions, e.g.,
through the development of advanced pedagogical approaches, community
service or research.
