FG IV - SCIENTIFIC PROJECT OFFICER - GREENHOUSE GAS AND AIR POLLUTANTS
EMISSIONS

As the science and knowledge service of the Commission, the mission of DG
Joint Research Centre is to support EU policies with independent evidence
throughout the whole policy cycle.

The JRC is located in 5 Member States (Belgium, Germany, Italy, the
Netherlands and Spain). Further information is available at:
https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/

The Air and Climate Unit, within the Directorate for Energy, Transport and
Climate, is working on supporting air and climate policy development and
implementation.

Its GHG-MoVe project supports European and international climate change
policy by providing independent estimates of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
at the European and global scales. GHG-MoVe integrates measurements, model
results and emissions data and also contributes to the assessment of the
co-benefits and trade-offs between air quality and GHG reduction policies by
estimating global air pollutant emissions in addition to the GHGs. Its
Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR) provides global
GHG emissions data and air pollutants inventories.

In this context we are looking for a candidate to perform studies related to
greenhouse gas and air pollutants emission in time and space. This will
include the analysis of emission trends and gridmaps and reduction measures
with their impact on climate and air pollution as well as support to the
continuous updates of EDGAR activity data, technologies and emission
reduction measures.

Qualifications:

A higher education (university cycle) with a master degree in environmental
or climate engineering, or atmospheric chemistry or physics is essential.
PhD in environmental sciences, atmospheric chemistry and physics or
engineering will be an asset. Proof of at least 3 years research in the
field of environment, climate or energy is required.

Knowledge of the following will be considered an advantage:

. Emission inventories, overview of data sources, bottom-up compilation;

. Air and climate measures and their co-benefits on climate;

. Atmospheric modelling and validation of emission inventories via modelling
with measurements;

. Knowledge of climate and air quality policies.

Relevant publications in the field and presentations should be highlighted.

The candidate must be on a valid EPSO reserve list for Function Group IV
contract staff.

If you are not in any valid EPSO reserve list for Function Group IV contract
staff, you can still apply by following these steps.

You express your interest by applying to the CAST Permanent or to the
permanent JRC Call for researchers.

1. CAST Permanent: open-ended selection procedure to create a pool of
candidates from which the institutions, bodies, offices and agencies of the
European Union (EU) can recruit contract agents.
