Job Summary/Responsibilities

+ Work on climate adaptation vulnerability assessments and plans

+ Thorough understanding of the development and implementation of Regional Conservation Investment Strategies and other conservation planning tools in California. This includes technical work related to regional conservation planning such as climate change analyses and design of conservation plans and strategies for multiple species and habitats over large spatial scales.

+ Experience developing comprehensive conservation plans including technical work related to parks and open space planning and land management.

+ Experience working on climate vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning projects, with a focus on sea level rise

+ Oversee and manage projects to meet technical, financial, and schedule project goals.

+ Lead meetings and run workshops/trainings with clients, stakeholders, working groups/committees, advocacy and community groups, and local, state and federal regulatory agencies such as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, ,and other agencies.

+ Preparing, reviewing, managing permit applications and supporting documents to secure regulatory permits and approvals (i.e., Clean Water Act Sections 401, 404, Endangered Species Act, California Endangered Species Act, Coastal Act, Coastal Zone Management Act, California Fish and Game Code Section 1600 _,_ McAteer-Petris Act, and the San Francisco Bay Plan, etc). Knowledge and familiarity with CEQA.

+ Experience developing compensatory mitigation plans.

+ Technical Background: 6 years professional experience in environmental consulting. Knowledge of biological resources in California, familiarity with excel-based and/or GIS-based analysis, experience with endangered species, or experience in conservation planning.

+ Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.

+ Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.

+ Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.

+ Conducts research and does investigation work as required.

+ Plans and organizes project studies.

+ Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.

+ Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.

  *   May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.
Minimum Requirements

+ Bachelors in conservation biology, environmental planning, urban planning, sustainability planning, natural resources management, environmental science, or related field + 6 years of relevant experience or a combination of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience in environmental consulting.

+ Masters Degree in conservation biology, environmental planning, urban planning, sustainability planning, natural resources management, environmental science, or related field
