Summary of Job Duties:
The Befus Hydrology Group (https://groundwater.uark.edu) of the Department of Geosciences in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher to test green to grey adaptation strategies for dynamic, coupled marine-groundwater-wetland systems. The postdoctoral researcher will develop, implement, and analyze numerical models primarily coupling groundwater and wetland components. The research will contribute to larger project goals by interfacing with collaborator-run models and through brainstorming workshops with local, regional, and national stakeholders.

The is a one-year appointment, renewable for two years based on the need for the position, availability of funding, and continued satisfactory level of performance in the role.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Ph.D. in geosciences with a thesis focus on hydrology, coastal hydrodynamics, groundwater/hydrogeology, quantitative wetland ecology, or a closely related field conferred by the time of appointment

·         Moderate to extensive experience with numerical modeling with MODFLOW and scientific programming (Python preferred; MATLAB, R, or other language with openness for learning Python at a minimum)

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Experience with FloPy and coupling MODFLOW outputs with other models

·         Groundwater coupled to surface water modeling experience

·         Python scientific programming experience

·         Strong (or strongly developing) publication record

·         Scientific publications as first author

·         Demonstrated interests in both fundamental and applied hydrologic research

·         Demonstrated evidence of excellent communication skills

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for this position:

·         Knowledge of scientific programming and numerical modeling
