A postdoctoral position is available with the UCLA Joint Institute for
Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE). The main focus of
the position is a joint UCLA/JPL project on the evolution of precipitating
boundary layer clouds. The incumbent will analyze ground-based remote
sensing observations of water vapor, precipitation properties and vertical
motion to understand the roles of precipitation and convection on boundary
layer moisture structure/organization. The selected candidate will have
ample opportunity to collaborate with JPL and UCLA scientists involved in
satellite remote sensing and validation of retrievals using collocated
aircraft observations.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or a
closely related field. A strong background in remote sensing is desired and
an interest in “big data” tools is a plus.
Applicants should submit a cover letter and complete CV, including contact
information for three references. Inquiries and application materials
should be addressed to Dr. Mikael Witte (mkwitte at ucla.edu). The position is
available immediately and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis
until it is filled. Given current circumstances, it is anticipated that
this will be a remote work position to start.
