Who we are
The Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG) is a center of excellence in applied geosciences within the College of Geosciences of Texas A&M University. GERG, founded in 1981, focuses on applied interdisciplinary research in the ocean and environmental sciences. As part of GERG's mission in education, graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to interact with GERG's scientists and staff in their study and research. The Research Instrumentation Specialist is responsible for training current employees on how to run the instrumentation necessary and provide guidance on the analysis from the data collected to meet the project requirements of several long-term sponsored projects such as Texas State Department and US Fish and Wildlife contracts. What you need to know
This is a temporary, part-time position.

Required Education and Experience:

  *   Bachelor's Degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  *   Five years' experience working with mass spectrometry and data analysis
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  *   Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience:

  *   Ph.D.
  *   25 years of experience working with contractual sponsored projects that involved analysis and instrumentation involving fish samples and DIOXIN analysis. Previous experience with running and analyzing PCB's, OC's, and Dioxins in fish samples with mass spectrometry
Responsibilities:

  *   Train Employees on instrumentation - Trains employees on how to run the mass spectrometry instrumentation with fish samples. Performs periodic upgrades of equipment and routine operational testing. Updates reference materials to allow up-to-date repair information and supply catalogs and may order equipment. Designs, fabricates, maintains, calibrates, operates and adjusts scientific instruments as requested by faculty and staff. Advises faculty and staff regarding operation, and maintenance of scientific instrumentation.

  *   Train employees on analysis - Trains employees on how to analyze the data provided by the mass spectrometer of fish samples. Maintains records and enters scientific data. Provides guidance on the analysis from the data collected to meet the project requirements of several long-term sponsored projects such as Texas State Department and US Fish and Wildlife contracts. Performs other duties as assigned.
