Dear Colleagues,
A funded PhD position in the Department of Geography at the University of Florida is available to start in August 2020. The candidate will work as a research assistant to use spatial metrics to characterize the representation of hurricane precipitation by radar, satellite, and modeling datasets, and investigate how large-scale environmental moisture impacts hurricane rainband development. This NSF-funded project involves female faculty at three institutions and all funded students will regularly collaborate.
Prospective students should be self-motivated with good oral and written communication skills. They must be able to work independently and, in a team, and perform detailed computational analysis on big datasets using programming languages such as Python (with ArcPy and MetPy). Training will be available in Python. The successful applicant will have taken courses in meteorology and hold a master's degree in that or a related field.

For further information and before applying to UF, please contact Dr. Corene Matyas at matyas at ufl.edu<mailto:matyas at ufl.edu>. Women and minority students are especially encouraged to apply.
