The Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences at 
Universität Hamburg invites applications for a

*Full Professorship of Small-scale Atmospheric Modeling, *

commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. 2335/W3.

Responsibilities:

The post holder is expectedto make a decisive contribution to 
meteorology, and to comprehensively represent the field of meteorology 
in teaching and research.Experience in at least one of the following 
areas is expected: basic research into near surface small-scale 
atmospheric processes (e.g., heterogeneous boundary layers with 
obstacles, shallow convection, scale interaction at the micro and 
mesoscale); development of small-scale models; applied small-scale 
atmospheric modeling, for example, in the context of urban climate research.

Duties include teaching in the bachelor’s and master’s meteorology 
degree program. A high level of scientific expertise and innovative 
teaching methods should contribute to further enhancing the profile of 
the department’s curriculum.

The successful applicant is also expected to complement the 
meteorological research at UniversitätHamburg and play an active role in 
the Center for Earth System Research and Sustainability (CEN) as well as 
in the Cluster of Excellence Climate, Climatic Change, and Society 
(CliCCS) and future research alliances (e.g., collaborative research 
centers [CRCs]). Duties also include participation in the Climate, Earth 
and Environment core research area.

Section12 subsection7 sentence2 of the Hamburg higher education act 
(Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

The teaching obligation is nine teaching hours in accordance with the 
regulation at institutions of higher education in Hamburg 
(Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung für die Hamburger Hochschulen, LVVO).

Requirements:

Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in 
Section15HmbHG.

Additional Criteria:

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as 
well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and 
carrying out externally funded projects.The University places particular 
emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that 
applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

Non-German-speaking post holders are expected to acquire the language 
skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European 
Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing 
employment providing they do not have the requisite skills when starting.

Following hearings to evaluate knowledge and expertise, management and 
human resources skills will be assessed by an assessment center.
