Responsibilities

     *   Serve as a coordinator and advisor regarding geospatial and ecological modeling and analysis that supports natural resources planning and science activities for a limited geographic district.
     *   Use quantitative geospatial analysis techniques to predict effects of planned or natural changes in ecological systems.
     *   Support the integration of geospatial data into local Bureau of Land Management decision making.
     *   Promote and implement an integrated training program to teach basic skills in geospatial and ecological modeling and analysis.
     *   Ensure that geospatial program activities are consistent with national policies and priorities, as well as any applicable laws or regulations.

GS11: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Analyzes, models and interprets resource information results and makes recommendations on findings for use by interdisciplinary planning teams or individual resource professionals; Leads interdisciplinary team efforts, or portions of team efforts to solve problems utilizing geospatial analyses; Develops quality control and quality assurance programs for geospatial data and processes for resource activities and compliance with state and Bureau standards and practices; Makes decisions on model development, data collection and analysis techniques, project utilization, etc.; Provides for data availability and develops and leads partnership efforts with other land management agencies, geospatial committees and users of resource information such as the general public; Coordinates efforts in providing data sources for digitizing or other data capture methods; Manages the GIS program and resource information analysis and serves as the technical expert on GIS applications and information support needs; Manages, develops, coordinates, and integrates GIS technologies to conduct more efficient resource analysis, analyze problems and issues and implement efficient practices/procedures, data management, database integration and application development in conjunction with and for resource professionals; Trains resource management personnel on application use, interface with other software systems, and data management policies, practices, and procedures; Develops, advises, interprets and implements GIS policies, standards and guides and acquires GIS products and/or other services; Keeps abreast of current GIS developments and resource information management changes and develops implementation plans for natural resource management.

Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.

GS09: In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Analyzes and interprets resource information results and makes recommendations on findings for use by interdisciplinary planning teams or individual resource professionals; Ensures quality control of data, data standards, databases, data dictionary, applications and computer model use for resource activities and compliance with state and Bureau standards and practices; Makes decisions on model development, data collection and analysis techniques, project utilization, etc.; Provides for data availability and resource information partnerships with other land management agencies and users of resource information such as the general public; Coordinates efforts in providing data sources for digitizing or other data capture methods; Manages the GIS program and resource information analysis and serves as the technical expert on GIS applications and information support needs; Manages, develops, coordinates, and integrates GIS technologies to conduct more efficient resource analysis, analyze problems and issues and implement efficient practices/procedures, data management, database integration and application development in conjunction with and for resource professionals; Trains resource management personnel on application use, interface with other software systems, and data management policies, practices, and procedures; Advises, interprets and implements GIS policies, standards and guides and recommends acquisition of GIS products and/or other services; Keeps abreast of current GIS developments and resource information management changes..

Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

0408 Series: Degree: biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences.
