About the Department:

The Department of Geosciences offers degrees in earth science, geography and
geology. Courses focus on oil and gas exploration, environmental problems,
historic preservation, planetary science and the physical, chemical and
biological aspects of earth. Field camps and research programs hone skills
and prepare students for rewarding careers in all aspects of geosciences

Summary of Job Duties

The Post Doctoral Fellow advances our scientific understanding of the Amazon
hydro-climate by combining tree ring chronologies with current
meteorological station records to diagnose and attribute modes of
variability to well known large-scale climate drivers.

Specific activities and abilities involve: field collection of tree-ring
data, dendrochronological analysis of tropical hardwoods, numerical analysis
of ring-width time series, statistical modeling of the climate signal in
tree-ring chronologies and station data, practical experience with research
permitting and compliance at the state and federal levels in Brazil,
research report writing and oral presentation of scientific results in both
English and Portuguese.


Minimum Qualifications: Please ensure that all relevant application

*        Ph.D. (in Forest Science, Climatology, Physical Geography, or
related field)

*        Fluent language skills in English and Portuguese

*        Field research experience in the Brazilian Amazon

The following physical activities are associated with the position and will
