The Job............
We are seeking a technical expert in Applied Seismology or Climate Change to lead the development of Hazard Assessment and Mitigation programs for the company. The primary focus of this position will be to lead programs that assess the impacts of key threats/hazards and develop and implement strategies for addressing those impacts (short-term and long-term). While the program scope is all hazards, we are specifically seeking a candidate who can bring expertise in the area of Applied Seismology and Climate Change. The ideal candidate would be a state, national or international expert in field of Climate Change, Seismic Assessments/Engineering Standards and/or Hazard Mitigation and Adaptation planning. We are looking for someone who has the technical knowledge and expertise in these areas but also can apply those in an operational setting - translating science into information meaningful for the business and working with the business to manage adaptation and mitigation plans to reduce impacts to critical infrastructure from those hazards.
This position reports to the Business Continuation (BC) Principal Manager in the Business Resiliency Department of SCE. The department covers the full spectrum of resiliency for the company to include, hazard risk reduction programs, data analytics, response, continuity and recovery planning and emergency management programs.

This position is:
* Responsible for leading multiple high profile, complex projects and teams, simultaneously.
* Bringing expert knowledge in hazard sciences, assessment and mitigation practices and associate authorities and state/national policies.
* Representing SCE as a recognized authority in Seismic or Climate Change and builds and maintains interpersonal relationships with key partners, sits on external technical committees related to field. Drives alignment with external agencies and works to continuously improve in all hazard vulnerability assessments and mitigations.
* Providing project management and strategic direction to a cross-functional project team(s) to address complex issues and is responsible for the project development, budget, and schedule.
* Providing experienced knowledge for the development and implementation of procedures, technical tools, and models aimed at hazard and vulnerability assessments and recommend strategic mitigations (i.e. ASCE seismic assessment standards, CAL-Adapt/Climate models etc.)
* Interacting with a wide variety of partners from engineers, scientist to executives and establish meaningful partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Routinely engaging with senior executives and external partners and needs to be able translate complex and technical information in a way that is easy to understand and can inform business decisions.
* Act as a catalyst for working with Federal and State Agencies to define industry standards, policies and practices and conduct/publish research
* Representing SCE in related compliance activities including presenting to external authorities and agencies.
* Supporting Emergency Response Operations, as needed, and directed by department management
Qualifications
Qualifications we need you to have.....
* Ten years' experience in program and project management (leading teams and coordinating efforts)
* Ten years of experience related to hazard assessment and/or mitigation
Other things that will set you up for success...
* Bachelor's degree in applicable profession, business or technical disciple
* PhD in related field, preferably risk management planning or science/application of a specific threat/hazards area (i.e. Seismology/Geoscience; Climate Change), engineering or a similar field;
* 15+ years' experience related to hazard assessment, mitigation, and/or risk management planning and program management; 2+years working in or with utility sector.
* Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast paced environment
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Easy to work with and a excellent teammate
* Use of GIS or Models specific to field of expertise
* Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
