Where You Will Work:
Located in Boulder, Colorado, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere -- the air around us -- and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Sun's core. UCAR manages the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community.
The COMET(r) Program is a world-wide leader in support of education and training for the environmental sciences, delivering scientifically relevant and instructionally progressive products and services. More recently, the program has expanded its international capacity development to improve rural and remote communication and collection of meteorological information in developing countries.
Job Title: Associate Scientist II

He/she will also support studies involving diagnostics with reliability and performance of 3D-PAWS station observations, including graphical methods and statistical analyses of the data. The incumbent will also support the deployment and maintenance for national and international deployments of 3D-PAWS networks. He/she will support training activities associated with 3D-PAWS projects.
Responsibilities:
Works with COMET scientists, engineers, and our partners to conduct testing and evaluation (T&E) of 3D-PAWS observations from both test and operational sensors and networks in order to provide a scientific basis of the data quality and reliability of 3D-PAWS observations. The incumbent will be involved in various T&E activities that are focused on establishing an ongoing baseline data quality and reliability of 3D-PAWS sensor measurements. The work will include but not be limited to:
* Gathering the observational datasets that will be to be evaluated and organizing datasets into a database,
* Contributing to design, software development, and the analysis of the observational datasets,
* Monitoring incoming data sets from 3D-PAWS networks and work with external collaborators to resolve any problems with 3D-PAWS operations and transmission,
* Running end-to-end testing and evaluation systems,
* Analyzing and evaluating 3D-PAWS datasets for selected sites and conduct focused evaluation of selected sites for periods interest,
* Develop quality control procedures, quality control 3D-PAWS datasets, and maintain a quality-controlled database,
* Prepare results and graphical output for project reports, conference papers, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
